Reading

At the suggestion of a friend, I am reading Art & Fear, Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland.

This short book reads like it is an essay distilled down to the bare essentials and is a real pleasure.   Bayles and Orland are both photographers but one of the things I like is that they don't force the issue. I believe photography has been separated  from the rest of the arts for far too long. The  authors never speak to just photographers and that is a very good thing.

Bayles and Orland address things like: "imagination, uncertainty, talent, expectations, navigating the system, new work, habits," and so on. Ever feel like you've come across something that says it as you've been saying it for a long time? Art & Fear is like that for me.

Highly Recommended.
